Only 7-8 years ago no one could imagine that one can achieve financial success by playing video games for days on end with the webcam turned on. However, the live-streaming market has undergone significant changes over the past decade.
Today, streamers have become idols for young people, and their broadcasts collect tens or even hundreds of millions of views. The most popular streaming platform Twitch has on average 2.2-3.2 million active broadcasters daily.
In the photo below you can see how views are distributed between the most famous streaming platforms. These are total hours of live-streams watched in Q2 2019. (The photo is taken from TechCrunch).
If we go to the financial side of the issue, then the results are still impressive. In 2018, the video game live-streaming industry was worth $10.1 billion. In 2019, the volume of market exceeded the mark of $13.1 billion, thereby having an increase of almost 30%.
With such a sharp spasmodic development of the market in the past few years the streamers themselves increased their incomes by several dozen times. This is characterized by the fact that they have a lot of opportunities for making money.
Affiliate programs, paid subscriptions, advertisements, merch-sales and donations - these are all methods of making money for streamers. Thus, a famous streamer Tyler “Ninja” Blevins confirmed to CNN, that he earned $332,000 monthly only from his paid subscriptions on Twitch.
Donations also make up a large share of income - even a quick analysis of donations allows us to determine that average streamers can earn from a few hundred to tens of thousands of dollars a month. Only in the first year of the existence of Twitch’s “Cheering” program, viewers donated over $12 million to players.
Such indicators are explained by the desire of the audience to support their favorite players and the huge level of audience-engagement in the streaming industry. Moreover, such a wide volume of donations explains the presence of a huge number of competing donation platforms in the market. They use different techniques and methods in delivering their service to customers. Some donation platforms, such as Streamlabs, focus on supporting as many payment systems as possible, while others provide a large number of small useful tools for managing streams (Streamelements, Tipeeestream, etc.).
However, let’s not forget that the audience donates to streamers because they like what their idols do. They feel a connection to the streamer, they feel they are part of something bigger. This is the idea DeStream was born from.
DeStream is an emotional donation platform providing new experiences and eliminating borders between viewers and content creators, and its goal is to provide better service than any competitor in the industry. It’s a blockchain based donation platform that is based on deeply reprogrammed stratis code. This allows us to provide low transaction fees and absolutely transparent contracts.
As a startup, we are aimed to change the regular function-manner of the live-streaming donation industry. Thus, in addition to all the standard services and tools that the streamer can use (analytical dashboard, overlays, multiple payment methods, widgets, alerts, and so on), we also provide the following features:
- Maximum fast and easy registration process (registration by login or email);
- Convenient binding of credit card(payment wallet): the user enters his/her credit card (payment wallet) data only once, and uses the account without entering this information again;
- Instant withdrawal of funds: streamers can immediately withdraw received money to their binded credit cards.
In the near future the following functions will be added:
- The ability to make internal donations: having money in the DeStream wallet, a user can make and receive donations directly from it.
- Users are able to embed video content in alerts of their donations;
- Affiliate program for streamers.
- Promo-donations: Streamers will have an opportunity to receive special promo-codes that they can give out to their subscribers. With these promo-codes, viewers can make donations without spending any money.
